Squares and Square Roots Definitions What two “things” create real numbers? o Rational numbers o Irrational numbers Rational Number: o Positive and Negative Whole Numbers o Fractions (and decimals) that terminate o Fractions (and decimals) that repeat Irrational Number: o A number that has a decimal that doesn’t end and has no pattern. o π and e What is a perfect square? – A rational number that is created by multiplying two of the exact same number – Will always be positive!! What is a square root? – Stating the number that creates the value underneath the root – Square roots can only be taken of positive numbers! What is an imaginary number???? o A number that can’t be calculated or approximated o i – what’s that?
