Luke 10:1-22 The Lord now chose seventy-two other disciples and sent them ahead in pairs to all the towns and places he planned to visit. He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Now go, and remember that I am sending you out as lambs among wolves.
24
Luke 10:1-22 Don't take any money with you, nor a traveler's bag, nor an extra pair of sandals. And don't stop to greet anyone on the road. "Whenever you enter someone's home, first say, 'May God's peace be on this house.‘ If those who live there are peaceful, the blessing will stand; if they are not, the blessing will return to you.
25
Luke 10:1-22 Don't move around from home to home. Stay in one place, eating and drinking what they provide. Don't hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve their pay. "If you enter a town and it welcomes you, eat whatever is set before you. Heal the sick who are there and tell them, 'The Kingdom of God has come near to you.
26
Luke 10:1-22 But if a town refuses to welcome you, go out into its streets and say, We wipe even the dust of your town from our feet to show that we have abandoned you to your fate. And know this--the Kingdom of God is near!'
27
Luke 10:17-22 reported to him When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, "Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!“ "Yes," he told them, "I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning! Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.
28
Luke 10:17-22 But don't rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.“ At that same time Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit, and he said, "O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way.
29
Jesus’ Model in Praying 1.Talk to God anywhere and at any time. 2.Dialogue with God especially if there is any uncertainty. 3. Anticipate what God has already told you.... Jesus looking for Zacchaeus in a tree. “ And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.” Luke 19:5 4. Talk to God after an event (Debriefing)
30
Importance of Debriefing But the news about Him was spreading even farther, and large crowds were gathering to hear Him and to be healed of their sicknesses. constantly withdrew into the Desert and there prayed but Jesus Himself constantly withdrew into the Desert and there prayed. Luke 5:15-16
31
Importance of Debriefing Jesus disciples reported back to Jesus sometimes with success stories Luke 10:17, sometimes with failures. Matthew 17:19 1.Encouragement 2.Correction 3.Tweaking a method of prayer 4.Improving what has been done 5.Keeping humble 6.Preventing pride or a swollen head 7.Anticipating next encounter.
32
Practical Steps 1.Ask the question: “What’s happening?” 2.Be prepared to continue in some way. 3.Share your story with others. 4.Be a good listener and a good learner. 5.Give all the glory to God. 6.Make an effort to do better. 7.Be persistence despite the obstacles and negativity.
