Directions: 1.Students should listen to the categories that these cases fall into and a brief description to help them choose the case they want to research further. 2.There will be no duplicate of cases. 3.There are more cases then listed here that you may do with my approval.

Education Cases Brown v. Board of Education – desegregation of public schools Engle v. Vitale – school can not force students into saying a school prayer Tinker v. Des Moines- wearing of arm bands is protected in school Veronica School District v. Acton – random drug testing is allowed in schools Abington School District v. Schempp – Bible reading in the classroom and the removal of students who don’t wish to hear it Hazelwood v. Kuhlmeier – freedom of speech in school newspapers

Government Rights Marbury v. Madison – allowed the courts the power of judicial review McCullough v. Maryland – congress has implied powers and the states can not interfere with these powers U.S. v. Nixon – limited the power of the president Gibbons v. Ogden – states can not interfere with the governments power to regulate interstate commerce
