3. How Teeth Grow Teeth start to grow immediately when you are born but they are visible at 6 to 12 months of age. Teeth form from embryonic cells, and erupt into the mouth.

4. Purpose The purpose of teeth is to get food ready for digestion. We have teeth for both tearing flesh (your canines & other "sharp" teeth) and grinding plant matter (your molars & other back flatter teeth). Without teeth we would be limited only to whatever food was either small enough to eat whole, or had been reduced to a paste so that we could eat without chewing.
