3 Ills carried over From the 2000/01 legislative pro- gramme Ills carried over From the 2000/01 legislative pro- gramme -South African Languages Bill - Language Professions Council Bill Reasons: Await approval of Language Policy by Cabinet ills carried over from the 2000/01 legislative pro- gramme ills carried over from the 2000/01 legislative pro- gramme B B -South African Languages Bill - Language Professions Council Bill Await approval of Language Policy by Cabinet -Request was that the policy should be costed. This has been done and if the policy is approved, the Bills will immediately be submitted to Cabinet. -Time scale: mid 2002.

4 Ills carried over From the 2000/01 legislative pro- gramme Ills carried over From the 2000/01 legislative pro- gramme -South African Languages Bill - Language Professions Council Bill Reasons: Await approval of Language Policy by Cabinet ills carried over from the 2000/01 legislative pro- gramme ills carried over from the 2000/01 legislative pro- gramme B B -Indigenous Knowledge System Bill (Bill drafted but needs to be harmonised with international IP norms). Bill is intended to regulate the promotion and exploitation of indigenous knowledge. -Time scale: mid 2002. - Innovation and Research Promotion Bill (Not to be proceeded with and likely to be replaced with more comprehensive legislation based on National R&D strategy currently being drafted).

5 Ills carried over From the 2000/01 legislative pro- gramme Ills carried over From the 2000/01 legislative pro- gramme -South African Languages Bill - Language Professions Council Bill Reasons: Await approval of Language Policy by Cabinet ills carried over from the 2000/01 legislative pro- gramme ills carried over from the 2000/01 legislative pro- gramme B B -National Scientific Professions Bill (Bill with State Law Advisors) This Bill regulates scientific professions from a qualifications and an ethical point of view. - Institute for the Promotion of Science Bill (Bill to be send to State Law Advisors). Creates a framework for a national institutional network of science centres. It is based on FEST, an existing institution.
