A Start at the SSI stated “Start Time” Warning Flag (Class) up at 5 Minutes before the start with one sound signal OOD will hoist the Red Flag when the committee boat is on station at the start line, no sound signal Preparatory P Flag up at 4 Minutes before the start with one sound signal Preparatory P Flag down at 1 Minute before the start with one sound signal Warning Flag (Class) down, one minute after the preparatory flag, this is the start signal with one sound signal Red Flag down at 4 minutes after the Warning flag (Class) has been taken down – you must start before this Flag is lowered otherwise you will have a DNS Note, no sound signal on lowering the Red Flag Normal Start SSI = “Special Sailing Instructions” that are issued for each Sailing Competition / Event / Regatta OOD = “Officer Of the Day” assigned individual who is responsible for organizing the “days” racing

4. A delay to the “Start Time” Warning Flag (Class) up at 5 Minutes before the start with one sound signal OOD will hoist the Red Flag when the committee boat is on station at the start line, no sound signal Preparatory P Flag up at 4 Minutes before the start with one sound signal Preparatory P Flag down at 1 Minute before the start with one sound signal Warning Flag (Class) down, one minute after the preparatory flag, this is the start signal with one sound signal Red Flag down at 4 minutes after the Warning flag (Class) has been taken down – you must start before this Flag is lowered otherwise you will have a DNS. Note, no sound signal on lowering the Red Flag Delayed Start OOD can hoist the Postponement AP Flag at any time with two sound signals Postponement AP Flag down at 6 Minutes before the start (at any time) with one sound signal

Back to Back Races “Start Time” Warning Flag (Class) up at 5 Minutes before the start with one sound signal OOD will hoist the Red Flag when the committee boat is on station at the start line, no sound signal Preparatory P Flag up at 4 Minutes before the start with one sound signal Preparatory P Flag down at 1 Minute before the start with one sound signal Warning Flag (Class) down, one minute after the preparatory flag, this is the start signal with one sound signal Red Flag down at 4 minutes after the Warning flag (Class) has been taken down – you must start before this Flag is lowered otherwise you will have a DNS. Note, no sound signal on lowering the Red Flag Back To Back Start As the lead boat rounds the last Mark the OOD will hoist the Back to Back L Flag to signal to stay on the water with one sound signal Back to Back L Flag down at 6 Minutes before the next start (at any time) with one sound signal

6. OOD Options on the Preparatory Flags used Preparatory P Flag up at 4 Minutes before the start with one sound signal means: “Boat / crew must be wholly on the prestart side of the course before starting i.e. dip starts allowed “ Start Options Preparatory I Flag up at 4 Minutes before the start with one sound signal means: “Round the ends rule apply for the last minute before the start signal- rule 30.1 A Boat that crosses the start within the last minute before the start must sail around one of the ends” Preparatory Black Flag up at 4 Minutes before the start with one sound signal means: “A Boat that enters the triangle between the Committee boat, the Pin End of the start line and the 1 st Mark of the course within the last minute before the start will be disqualified – rule 30.3”

7. Individual and General Recalls After the start signal a boat(s) or crew(s) that has / have crossed the start line in violation of the flown Preparatory Flag, the OOD will raise by hand the Individual Recall X Flag with one sound signal and then hold up until all the individual recalled boats have restarted or 4 minutes has elapsed. You must restart within 4 minutes of your Start Flag (Class) Recall Options Or, if there are too many boats or crews that have crossed the start line in violation of the flown Preparatory Flag or there is a mistake in the race start timing or for whatever reason considered to be appropriate by the OOD, the OOD will raise by hand the First Substitute Flag (General Recall) with two sound signals, all boats shall return to the starting area and await the next Flag instruction The First Substitute Flag will be flown (held up) until the OOD is ready to restart the race for the current Class or start the next Class due to start as per the SSI’s For the Class starting, First Substitute Flag down at 6 Minutes before the start (at any time) with one sound signal Note, if another Class is racing, the Class that has been recalled shall wait until the end of all other classes starting. The Class that is starting will respond to the First Substitute Flag in the same manner as the Postponement AP Flag. The Class that has been recalled must then wait for their Class Flag (5 minute warning to start) to be hoisted

8. The “Finish” Boats will then proceed directly to cross the finish line from the direction of the last Mark rounded, as each boat crosses the finish line their finish may be be acknowledged with one sound signal It is a competitor’s sole responsibility to ensure that they have sailed the required number of laps in the correct order and passed each Mark on the specified side in the SSIs Blue Flag down after the last boat has finished, no sound signal Finish Full Course As the lead boat rounds the last Mark of the full course the OOD will hoist the Blue Flag to signal that committee boat is on the finish line, no sound signal (Reminder – If flown, Back to Back L Flag down at 6 Minutes before the next start (at any time) with one sound signal) Note, if the Back to Back L Flag to signal is in position please stay on the water for the next race, if it is not, then return to the beach

9. The “Shortened Course Finish” Boats will then proceed directly to cross the finish line from the direction of the last Mark rounded, as each boat crosses the finish line their finish may be be acknowledged with one sound signal It is a competitor’s sole responsibility to ensure that they have sailed the required number of laps in the correct order and passed each Mark on the specified side in the SSIs Blue Flag and the Shortened Course S Flag down after the last boat has finished, no sound signal Finish Shortened Course As the lead boat rounds the last Mark of a shortened course the OOD will hoist the Blue Flag to signal that committee boat is on the finish line with the Shortened Course S Flag with two sound signals (Reminder – If flown, Back to Back L Flag down at 6 Minutes before the next Class start (at any time) with one sound signal) Note, if the Back to Back L Flag is in position please stay on the water for the next race, if it is not, then return to the beach
