1 IN CLASS ACTIVITIES

2  Identify by name & briefly describe two (2) different mise-en-scene techniques (the sets, costumes, colors, and/or composition) which add to the meanings of the segment from Gangs of New York.  Note how each technique helps us understand what is going on in the scene, or builds atmosphere, or reveals character, etc. I do NOT want you to review the quality of these elements or make any kind of review—this is an application exercise only.  Afterwards, some answers will be shared with the whole class. Written response need to be turned in after class to receive points (5 PTS. CR/NCR but ONLY if you submit a written response TODAY! If you forget, then too bad, no points).

3  Identify by name and briefly describe two (2) different mise- en-scene techniques, and one (1) lighting technique illustrated in the clip we saw from the 1931 film, Dracula.  Note how each technique helps us understand what is going on in the scene, or builds atmosphere (and mood) or foreshadows the plot. I do NOT want you to review the quality of these elements or make any kind of review—this is an application exercise only.  Afterwards, some answers will be shared with the whole class.
