When we left our timeshare on the South Island, we drove from Wanaka to Christchurch, where we then flew on to Australia. On our way, we had lunch in Waimate, a very nice little community. Queen Street (the main drag) had colorful, interesting stores to see.
2
The blue building on the right served as a Tourist Information Center; we visited it briefly to learn a little about Waimate. The Country Kitchen next door looked inviting, but we didn’t eat there. We needed to find a restaurant that might have some gluten-free meals for Judy.
3
An interesting store on the Waimate main street. You can order fish, but eat chicken there!
4
This hotel might have been fun to stay in.
5
A “model” garage (closed for the day) had model cars on display; the painting on the side of the building showed New Zealanders shearing sheep, which is the main profession in the country.
6
We found a nice lunch spot called “Café on Queen.”
7
I had the veggie quiche and they fixed Judy a burger and salad.
8
A nice bar was in one corner of the restaurant.
9
Judy already picked a gluten-free dessert while waiting for her lunch.
10
Two angles on an interesting farm store and pharmacy.
