3. What is soil? Soil is a thin layer of material on the earth’s surface in which plants have their roots. Soils information takes place when many things interact such as air,water,plant life, animal life, rocks, and chemicals. Soil is made up of many things such as weathered rock, decayed plants, and animal matter. Soil is also formed over a long period of time.

4. This is how soil is formed The formation of soil happens over a long period of time. It can take 1000 years or more. The surface rocks break down into smaller rocks. Through a process of weathering.

5. Types of soil The three main types of soil is sand, silt, and clay. They are all main types

6. Sand Sand is made by rocks being crushed up in to tiny pieces. The color is light brown and it has a fine texture.

7. silt Silt is a type of grain that has dirt and water mixed in with it. It feels very rough it has a medium texture and its color is reddish brown.

8. Clay Clay is made out of powder and it also has some mixture of water and some small smashed rocks in it. Clay also has some squishy type of material in it. It has a coarse texture and the colors are light brown and dark brown.
