1 The Life of Brian

2 1.The Nativity or birth of Brian 2.The Crucifixion You will need to be able to be able to: 1. Describe each scene 2. Explain the effect of the clips on a believer 3. Evaluate the positive and negative messages of the clips Tasks You will be looking in depth at two scenes

3 The Nativity or birth of Brian 1.Describe the scene 2.In the scene it is made clear that Brian is not the Messiah as the three kings go to the ‘real nativity’ shortly after visiting Brian. At the time that the film was originally released, Christians were offended by it. Why would they still be offended when the film made it clear from the outset that Brian was NOT Jesus? 3.“Film makers should be banned from making films that might insult religious people” Do you agree? Give reasons for your answer and show at least one other point of view. 6AE

4 The Crucifixion 1.Describe the scene. 2.For many Christians, and, possibly for Jesus himself, the crucifixion is/was one of the important aspects of their faith. How do you imagine a Christian would feel watching this scene and why would they feel that way. 3.Earlier in the film, the old man told the roman centurion that ‘crucifixion is a doddle’. What could be one of the positive outcomes of treating crucifixion in this way?
