The Arizona Course Applicability System: Uses for Admissions and Advisement http://az.transfer.org/cas Coconino Community College Prepared by Amy Fountain CAS Transfer Analyst, State of Arizona

Introduction Using CAS for Course Equivalency Information Using CAS for Course Applicability Information Getting the Freshest Data CAS Coming Attractions, Contacts and Help

Using CAS for Course Equivalency Information Create a Student-specific CEG View Current and Future Rules Get a Quick View of Past rules What’s official, what’s not official in CAS?

Create a Student-Specific CEG go to http://az.transfer.org/cas > “Go To CAS”. Select “My Courses” to enter courses. Use the “help” button! Request a Planning Guide for NAU called “Transfer Guides” –Drill down through the links in the audit to find Liberal Studies information. –(NAU plans to provide interactive Liberal Studies information for Fall, 1991).

View the Student-Specific CEG From within CAS, select “View Planning Guides” Select the planning guide you wish to view. Notice that CAS has automatically looked up the rule(s) for –one or many community colleges –one or many academic year/terms This is the quickest way to find CEG information for lots of courses, taken at lots of schools, over lots of year/terms.

View Current and future CEG rules - Administrative CEG Go to http://az.transfer.org/cas Select “Administrative CEG” Drill down to the college and prefix you’d like to view. –Read the “Key & Help” page! This document is most like the old printed CEG! –It is static, updated every two weeks. –It requires separate look up for each college, and only includes current (and future) rules.

Printing the Administrative CEG Print the CEG only if absolutely necessary! Select a community college, and the prefix(es) that you would like to print. –To print all equivalencies for a community college, select the college, then click on the “print all linked documents” option in your browser’s print menu. Remember, the information that you print cannot be updated! The administrative CEG is updated every TWO WEEKS.

Get a Quick View of Past Rules go to http://az.transfer.org/cas Select “Go to CAS” Login as a Guest Select “Course Equivalency Guides” You will see all of the equivalencies for a community college prefix, including past, present and future equivalencies. Click on the “vital information to keep in mind when using the CAS CEG”.

What’s Official in CAS? - and What’s Not? CAS is now the OFFICIAL REPOSITORY OF CEG DATA for the state of Arizona. –The CEG function within CAS shows official rules. –The Administrative CEG reports show official rules. Planning Guides created in CAS can NOT be official –They are based on self-reported data!

Using CAS for Course Applicability Information Course equivalency is only half of the picture! –students also want to know how their transferred courses will APPLY to a degree program. CAS Planning Guides can be created to show this information. –Look at ASU’s Planning Guides for their baccalaureate degrees. –Look at UA’s Planning Guides for their General Education program.

Regular Planning Guides Regular planning guides show how a course applies to degree program rules. Go to CAS, and add some courses to your portfolio. Request a Planning Guide for an ASU program. –View the planning guide, and look for where your courses applied. –Run a separate guide for ASU General Studies

Cross-Reference Planning Guides Cross-reference guides show all the community college courses that would apply to a university program. Find community college courses with General Education value at UA –Request a Planning Guide, select “General Education” –Select “Pima College, Fall 1999” as your cross- reference institution and term. View the planning guide, to see what Pima courses may satisfy UA General Education.

Getting the Freshest Data CAS Equivalency data will be loaded every other Wednesday, beginning August 9. Equivalency rules will be posted for future terms as soon as they are known. Administrative CEG Reports will be refreshed every time the equivalency data in CAS changes. If you print CEG Reports, they will only be current for two weeks, at most!

Some CAS Coming Attractions NAU Transfer Planning Guides –For Liberal Studies (aiming for Fall, 2001) –May move static Transfer Guides into CAS. They would show how a students’ community college coursework might match the transfer guide. Cross-reference planning aids would allow the student to see the community college courses that will transfer to the university major. Administrative CEG “Change” Reports? –To include only the rules that have changed from one data load to another.
