11 Traditions: Skeletons
Skeletons and skulls are found everywhere. Chocolate skulls, marzipan coffins, and white chocolate skeletons. Handmade skeleton figurines, called calacas, are especially popular. Calacas usually show an active and joyful afterlife. Figures of musicians, generals on horseback, even skeletal brides, in their white bridal gowns marching down the aisles with their boney grooms.

19 For your project, you will be researching an Influential Hispanic Person to create a mask inspired by them and Dia de los Muertos. You will be researching to learn about how the person made an impact on the world. You will not be creating just a calavera mask and also will not be making a mask that just looks like your person. You will draw inspiration from their life and their importance to create symbols, imagery, sculptural elements, and more to represent the person through the art of mask making.
