Shame Genesis 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

Shame: How does it works –Experience a painful event –Believe a lie that our pain and failures is who we are, not just something we had done (true guilt) or had done to us (false guilt) – lie that he can never recover Does God love me? Do people love me? Low value of himself Feel helpless or hopeless

Shame: How does it affect? –Hiding from God –Self- conscious, exposed, naked –Feeling unworthy of approval –Feeling worthless – low self-esteem –Feeling unlovable – does anyone care? –Feeling helpless and hopeless Leads to depression, anger, and anxiety Drug abuse, alcoholism, gambling, eating disorder and others

Shame: How to come out of it? –Accept which can’t be changed David and Bathsheba –II Samuel 12:13 And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. –Psalm 51:2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. – 3For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. –12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

–We must believe that God can change our future Peter – Luke 22:34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me. :60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew. :61And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. :62And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.

Peter’s response – he gave up –John 21:3 - Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing. Peter’s heart – He accepted Jesus’ call –John 21:17 - He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Judas’ response – he regretted – Matthew 27:3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, –4 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. – 5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. –Shame controlled him –Paul’s Determination Ephesians 3:8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

–We must move on Philippians 3:13 - Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
