Defense Mechanisms and Emotions

Emotions Love: strong affection or deep concern for another person
All people have the capability to be give love away and all need to receive it in one way or another. Can be expressed through words, touch, or other actions that show caring and concerns.

There are different types of love:
Friendships: a trust and loyalty towards each other and share the same interests. Family: caring between parents, children, and siblings. Love in Marriage: deepest kind of love commitments of two people share part of life.

Some types of love are not felt towards certain individuals. This could be the love of a country, respect for values, patriotic humanity for others like being helpful to strangers.

Anger It’s strong feelings of displeasure that can range from annoyance. In result one can have an increase of heart rate, you may tremble or face get warm. Some times of anger can be: Frustration – a type of disappointment Hostility – another feeling of displeasure

Fear This is when you believe that you are in danger.
You can begin to sweat, have you’re heart beat rapidly, and/or hands or and feet get cold.

Anxiety (a part of fear)
It’s the fear of being hurt, or falling or losing something important to you. One can become nervous, ill at ease, and/or have blood vessel dilate that’s when one blushes. One might not come to conclude but jealously is another type of fear. It is when you are afraid of losing something you already have.

Grief Grief is a deep sorrow that is caused by the loss of someone or something.

Grieving Process Shock and Disbeliefs: Emotional Release:
This is a temporary retreat from a hurtful event accompanied by a feeling of emotional numbness. Emotional Release: Many people may release the emotional pressure by crying.

Depression and loneliness : You feel out of contact with everyone. Physical Distress: As a result of this one can get high blood pressure, insomnia, or lost of appetite.

Panic: When you panic you have a lack of clear direction and moments of disbeliefs. Guilt: One by be quite regretful and have a desire to change the past.

Hostility Resentment: One may express their feelings of anger towards other people. Dejection: This is when a person is unable to return to their usual activities.

Reconciliation: This is when takes positive steps to change their life. Adaptation: One’s reorganization of how life will continue and they begin on creating new relationships.

Defense Mechanisms This is when a person develops different ways in order to protect, or defend, themselves from feeling too much pain. There are eleven mechanisms that are commonly used among people.

Repression: This being the most basic of all defenses. One may have painful thoughts or feelings that are pushed away for conscious thought. Rationalization: This is when one makes excuses for their behavior preserve self-esteem and avoid guilt. Compensation: This is done when one is covering up their own faults or weakness by trying to excel in other areas. Projection: This is when people see their own faults or feelings in other people even when others don’t have it.

Idealization: This is when one admires someone so much that they see the person as perfect and this gives them to set their own personal goals. Daydreaming: This is when a person creates a make believe events that more pleasant or exciting than real world.

Sublimation: This is a replacement of undesirable impulse with acceptable behavior. Displacements: This when a person shifts feelings about one person or situations to an object or another person. Reaction formation : This when a person hides their feelings from themselves by acting in a manners opposite to the way they would act

Regression : This when a person acts less maturely than one normally does. Perhaps they feel neglected and want attention. Denial: This is when one refuses to recognize reality avoid feelings that need to be dealt with.

These mechanisms can be quite useful to get one through difficult times. However, when one heavily relies on the defense mechanism way too much, the problem can become more severe situation that it started out in the first place.
