2. Anticlimax  The turning point in a story, and often a letdown because the story well not end the way we expected.  Romeo & Juliet, By William Shakespeare Page 869.  Romeo and Juliet is an anticlimax, Because we didn’t know that both Romeo and Juliet were going to die.

3. Comic Relief  A technique that is used to interrupt a serious part of a literary work by introducing a humorous character or situation.  Understanding Comics, By Scott McCloud Page 698.  In the story Understanding Comics, it tells us about comic relief and how comics are funny and the pictures interesting.

4. Dramatic Monologue  Is a poem or speech in which a fictional character addresses the listener.  Understanding Comics, By Scott McCloud Page 698.  Understanding Comics is a dramatic monologue Because Scott McCloud is fictional character and he is informing us about comics.

5. Foreshadowing  Is the use in literary work of clues that suggest events that have yet to occur.  Earhart Redux, By Alex Chadwick, Page 710.  Amelia Earheart Failed her journey around the world so there is foreshadowing that someone else might finish what she started.

6. Meter  A poem that’s rhythmical pattern, the pattern is determined by the number and types of stresses, or beats in each line.  “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud”, By William Wordsworth Page 896.  This story is a meter because it’s a poem and it has stress and beats when you read it.

7. Monologue  Is a speech by one character in a play, story, or poem.  Romeo and Juliet, By William Shakespeare Page 770.  There is a monologue between the prince of Verona and the Capulets/ Montagues, which the prince commands them to cease the feuding.

8. Paradox  A statement that seems contradictory but that actually may be true, the paradox is surprising it catches the readers attention.  The Most Dangerous Game, By Richard Connell Page 18.  This story has a paradox because this person was shooting some animals and wasn’t paying attention and shot some people and this is heart pounding.

9. Science Fiction  A writing that tells about imaginary events involving science or technology, many science fiction stories are set in the future.  If I forgot thee, oh earth…, By Arthur C. Clarke’s Page 486.  If I Forgot Thee, Oh Earth is science fiction because this story is set in the future on the moon after a nuclear disaster on earth.

10. Theme  A central message or insight into life revealed through literary work, the theme may be stated directly or implied.  Single Room, Earth View, By Sally Ride Page 636.  The theme of “Single Room, Earth View” is space traveling and her views of space from the space ship.
