X High School – Chaperone Details

Details and points of pride on past RFL events at school OR quick overview of RFL plans for coming year

How do we/will we do it? Planning, rules, and patience. HERE WE GO…

Your Job as a Chaperone Turn in your chaperone form! Actively monitor your team Learn the names of all students on the team Set a good example and conduct yourself in a manner that will encourage the best behavior of all participants.

Event Rules NO pets NO siblings from other schools without parent NO chaperones who didn’t register NO chaperones who forgot their ID NO students who didn’t register No smoking or tobacco products

What to do When You Arrive Students and chaperones are to check in upon arrival Chaperones – be prepared to show your ID to get into the event. You MUST be pre- registered and show your ID Student cannot arrive late or leave early unless they have their parents have completed this form

Registration If you have money to turn in on the morning of the event, take it to the information tent as soon as you are registered. Your school and team will be credited. All checks should be made out to the American Cancer Society.

Registration Additional Registration info to be included here

What Should We Bring? List items – tents, coolers, food – teams and chaperones can bring

What Should We bring? Check the weather and be prepared with sun screen or an umbrella. All students will receive a packet of sunscreen. Many teams will be running fundraisers at the event. We recommend bringing spending money for this as well as food.

What Can be Left at Home? Please do not bring glass bottles or containers onto the property. No pets Siblings without parents Valuables are brought at your own risk

Schedule of Events Provide an overview of the event schedule, and mention what to expect during the Opening, Survivor, Luminaria and Fight Back Ceremonies for new participants

Food Provide details on food and drinks during the Relay

Facilities Provide details and locations for the bathrooms, the “bank” area, first aid kits, central committee area and other important locations.

Thunderstorm & Bad Weather Plan Provide information on the alternate/emergency location in case of bad weather

Donations Include information about turning in money

Donations The information tent will record every team donation so that the event-day fundraisers can be added to your team total. Give us at least two weeks after the event to process these figures and announce team totals for the year.

Good Stuff to Know! List other items that need to be considered, such as - EVERYONE needs to walk counter- clockwise around the track. People who “go against the flow” create dangerous situations very quickly. Trash and recycling collection is done non-stop throughout the day.

Good Stuff continued… All school rules are in effect for the duration of the event. Please be respectful of all in attendance. At least one team member from each team must be walking the track at all times.

Final Thoughts Take some time to talk with your kids about all of the things they learned by participating in Relay: responsibility, leadership, and compassion for others. These qualities last a lifetime, prepare them for the workforce, and are equally important to the money that we raise in the fight against cancer.

Contacts List email and phone for committee members, chaperones can contact if they have questions

Thank You!
