Historical Background: A journal entry from May 1838. Joseph Smith and others were looking for land outside Caldwell County for the Saints to settle. Lyman Wight had built a cabin there. In a short time, Adam-ondi-Ahman became the second largest LDS community in Missouri. Usually it’s called just “Diahman” Section 116

Although, in the above (D&C 107), there is nothing directly said about the offering of sacrifices, yet, as this was a usual ceremony, and it belonged to the Priesthood and to the promised seed to offer sacrifices, it would be reasonable to suppose that Adam did then and there officiate in that rite; indeed, it was stated by the Prophet Joseph Smith, in our hearing while standing on an elevated piece of ground or plateau near Adam-ondi-Ahman (Davis Co., Missouri,), where there were a number of rocks piled together, that the valley before us was the valley of Adam-ondi-Ahman; John Taylor’s Recollections:

or in other words, the valley where God talked with Adam, and where he gathered his righteous posterity, as recorded in the above revelation, and that this pile of stones was an altar built by him when he offered up sacrifices, as we understand, on that occasion. If Adam then offered up sacrifices in the presence of these prominent men, he being the President of these High Priests, he would officiate for them as well as for himself; while it is quite reasonable to believe that they assisted in the offerings made upon that altar. John Taylor’s Recollections:

Daniel 7: Daniel and the Ancient of Days http://scriptures.lds.org/en/dan/7/9,13-14,22#9

Daniel in his seventh chapter speaks of the Ancient of Days; he means the oldest man, our Father Adam, Michael, he will call his children together and hold a council with them to prepare them for the coming of the Son of Man. He (Adam) is the father of the human family, and presides over the spirits of all men, and all that have had the keys must stand before him in this grand council. This may take place before some of us leave this stage of action. The Son of Man stands before him, and there is given him glory and dominion. Adam delivers up his stewardship to Christ, that which was delivered to him as holding the keys of the universe, but retains his standing as head of the human family. - Joseph Smith, July 1839 What does Daniel mean by this?

Glorious things are sung of Zion There they shunn'd the pow'r of Satan And observed celestial laws; For in Adam-ondi-Ahman Zion rose where Eden was. Is Adam-ondi-Ahman the garden of Eden?

Received 2 days after Section 1: November 1831 Elders and High Priests gathered for a conference to consider publishing the revelations. The revelations are given in preparation for the great events that must shortly come to pass. Section 133 – “The Appendix”
