11 Simon Peter, Phillip & Nathanael
“Come And See That You May Believe” Simon Peter, Phillip & Nathanael Phillip Greek name suggests Greek connections - cf. also Jn 12:20-22 From Bethsaida of Galilee - Jn 1:44; 12:21 Selected to be one of the twelve apostles - Lk 6:13-14 Asked by Jesus about bread in feeding the 5,000 - Jn 6:5-7 It was he who asked, "Lord, show us the Father" - Jn 14:8 John 1:43-44 (NKJV) 43 The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, "Follow Me." 44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

12 Simon Peter, Phillip & Nathanael
“Come And See That You May Believe” Simon Peter, Phillip & Nathanael Phillip Philip’s discussion with Nathanael stressed that Jesus is the Promised One of whom Moses (Deut. 18:18-19; cf. John 1:21, 25) and the prophets (Isa. 52:13-53:12; Dan. 7:13; Micah 5:2; Zech. 9:9) wrote. Called Jesus... the son of Joseph. But would soon recognize that He is “the Son of God” (John 1:49). John 1:45-46 (NKJV) 45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."

13 Simon Peter, Phillip & Nathanael
“Come And See That You May Believe” Simon Peter, Phillip & Nathanael Nathanael Of Cana in Galilee - Jn 21:2Probably a fisherman also - cf. Jn 21:1-3 Nathanael was at first skeptical, because Jesus was of Nazareth - Jn 1:46 Jesus convinces Nathanael - Jn 1:47-51 John 1:45-46 (NKJV) 46 And Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see."

14 Simon Peter, Phillip & Nathanael
“Come And See That You May Believe” Simon Peter, Phillip & Nathanael Nathanael Jesus, having supernatural knowledge (cf. v. 42), called Nathanael... a true Israelite, in whom there is nothing false (dolos, “deceitful”) unlike Jacob (cf. v. 51 with Gen. 28:12). John 1:47 (NKJV) 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!"

15 Simon Peter, Phillip & Nathanael
“Come And See That You May Believe” Simon Peter, Phillip & Nathanael Nathanael Jesus said He knew exactly what Nathanael was doing before Philip came up to him; This expression often meant to have safety and leisure (cf. 1 Kings 4:25; Mic 4:4; Zech. 3:10). Psalm 139 elaborates on the theme of God’s knowledge of a person’s life in every detail. John 1:48 (NKJV) 48 Nathanael said to Him, "How do You know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you."

16 Simon Peter, Phillip & Nathanael
“Come And See That You May Believe” Simon Peter, Phillip & Nathanael Nathanael Prompting Nathanael to proclaim - "Rabbi, You are the Son of God!" - cf. Mt 14:33 "You are the King of Israel!" - cf. Mt 21:5; 27:11 Nathanael is convinced that this teacher (Rabbi) is the Messiah John 1:49 (NKJV) 49 Nathanael answered and said to Him, "Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!"

17 “Come And See . . . That You May Believe”
John 1:50-51 (NKJV) 50 Jesus answered and said to him, "Because I said to you, 'I saw you under the fig tree,' do you believe? You will see greater things than these." 51 And He said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man."

18 You will see greater things than these
“Come And See That You May Believe” You will see greater things than these Greater evidences of His Messiahship E.g., heaven opening and angels of God ascending and descending upon Him An allusion to Jacob's dream? - Gen 28:12 An implication that Jesus was the way (ladder) to heaven? - cf. Jn 14:6

19 “Come And See . . . That You May Believe”
John 20:30-31 (NKJV) 30 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

22 Mark 1:14-20 (NKJV) 14 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel." 16 And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 17 Then Jesus said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men."

23 Mark 1:14-20 (NKJV) 18 They immediately left their nets and followed Him. 19 When He had gone a little farther from there, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets. 20 And immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him.
