As of December 1, % of U.S. TV Households were served by 1,525 broadcast stations, in a 211 markets.
CBS currently has 189 stations on the air that can reach potentially 98% of the American Households.
UPN has 132 station on the air that can reach 86% of the US Households.

4. HDTV Retransmission
All consumer manufacturers are moving to 1920 x 1080 HD displays. Ex. Sony’s SXRD, JVC D-ILA, Sharp LCD Aquos, LG Plamsa & LCD. All 2 million picture element displays.
All of out agreements specify that the full 19.3 Mbps must be carried on the cable, Direct Broadcast Satellite with no preprocessing and no material degradation.
When encoder manufactures that claim they carry 1920 x 1080 in 12 or 14 Mbps, beware of pre-filtering and rate shaping = degraded pictures and motion artifacts.

Starting in March 2006, CBS will be rolling out Sony XDCAM-HD at all 17 Owned and Operated stations for HD-ENG. 7 stations already have HD studio cameras & HD production switchers.
