Blessed Jesus, at Your Word CW #221 Verse 1- 4 Text: Tobias Clausnitzer, 1619-84 (st. 1-3) Geistreiches Gesang-Büchlein, Berlin, 1707 (st. 4) Setting: LIEBSTER JESU, WIR SIND HIER Tune: Johann R. Ahle, 1625-73, alt.

Verse 1: Blessed Jesus, at your Word We are gathered all to hear you. Let our hearts and souls be stirred Now to seek and love and fear you, By your teachings, sweet and holy, Drawn from earth to love you solely.

Verse 2: All our knowledge, sense, and sight Lie in deepest darkness shrouded Till your Spirit breaks our night With the beams of truth unclouded. You alone to God can win us; You must work all good within us.

Verse 3: Gracious Savior, good and kind, Light from Light, from God proceeding, Open now our heart and mind; Help us by your Spirit's pleading. Hear the cry your people raises; Hear and bless our prayers and praises.

Verse 4: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, Praise to you and adoration! Grant that we your word may trust, Confident of our salvation. While we here below must wander, Till we sing your praises yonder.

Greeting Pastor: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. All: And also with you.

Prayer of the Day Pastor: Let us pray. (The pastor says the Prayer of the Day.) All: Amen.

God’s Word to His People Philippians 3:8-14 Pressing on Toward the Goal

Gracious Savior, Gentle Shepherd CW #508 Verses 1-4 Text: Jane E. Leeson, 1807-82 Setting: SIEH, HIER BIN ICH, EHRENKÖNIG Tune: Geist-reiches Gesang- Buch, Darmstadt, 1698

Verse 1: Gracious Savior, gentle Shepherd, Children all are dear to you; May your loving arms enfold them In your care their whole life through. Gently tend and safely keep them In your mercy strong and true.

Verse 2: Tender Shepherd, never leave them, Never let them go astray; By your warning love directed, May they walk the narrow way. Thus direct them, thus defend them Lest they fall an easy prey.

Verse 3: By your holy Word instruct them; Fill their minds with heav'nly light. By your pow'rful grace convince them Always to approve what's right. Let them feel your yoke is easy; Let them find your burden light.

Verse 4: Taught to love the holy praises Which on earth your children sing, With their lips and hearts, sincerely, Glad thank off'rings may they bring, Then with all the saints in glory Join to praise their Lord and King.
