The order is Monotremata They are split into two families, Ornithorhynchidae meaning platypus, and Tachyglossidae meaning echidnas. There are also two genus forms of the Tachyglossidae family, Tachyglossus aculeatus meaning short-beaked echidnas and Zaglossus referring to the long-beaked echidnas.
