Lessons Learned About Managing the Survey Spent more time than necessary on publicity for surveys in 2005 and 2007 What works at UNT: – Incentives that students are interested in – Frequent email reminders to take the survey – Showing participants that the survey drives library improvements Timing may not matter: – 2005 and 2007 surveys administered in March – 2008 survey administered during the three weeks immediately prior to spring semester final exams

The Story in the Data Results of the pilot are very consistent with the results obtained in 2005 and 2007 Each of the three surveys had significant differences from the others: – 2005: 10% sample of students; original survey – 2007: all students; original survey – 2008: all students; 30% original survey, 70% shortened survey

LibQUAL+® Desired Score: Graduate Students

LibQUAL+® Minimum Acceptable Score: Graduate Students

LibQUAL+® Perceived Score: Graduate Students

Next Steps Why don’t perception scores reflect changes? Possible reasons: – Poor marketing – Don’t address issues most important to library users – Affect a subgroup not large enough to impact the overall score – Changes in perception may be reflected subtlely
