2 What is BRSS? A subsystem within Dr. Malott’s Behavior Analysis Training System (BATS)

3 Overview of BRSS Graduate students are completing a Research & Development Project and need YOUR help! BRSS supervises the completion of work on each project within BATS Grad students act as supervisors of undergrads Undergrads assist in the development of the R&D project

5 The Projects Organizational Behavior Management (OBM) Advanced Practicum (AP) Intermediate Practicum (IP) Pre-Practicum Language Facilitation Training System (LFTS) –Verbal Behavior –PECS

6 Organizational Behavior Management (OBM) Some possible tasks an OBM undergrad would complete are: –Help run seminar –Help supervise graduate students –Check task completion –Create new materials for students We need 1 undergrad for this system!

7 Advanced Practicum (AP) Some possible tasks an AP undergrad would complete are: –Updating training manuals –Creating new materials for Advanced Practicum seminar We need 1 undergrad for this system!

8 Intermediate Practicum (IP) Some possible tasks an IP undergrad would complete are: –Help devise new materials –Help revise old materials –Track student’s progress –Help run seminar We need 1 undergrad for this system!

9 Behavioral Systems Analysis Project (BSAP) Some possible tasks a BSAP undergrad would complete are: –Making sure students complete required tasks –Grading and graphing student progress throughout the semester –Help run the seminar We need 1 undergrad for this system!

10 Language Facilitation Training System (LFTS) Some possible tasks a LFTS undergrad would complete are: –Helping train others on the correct techniques during discrete trials –Develop materials (i.e. picture cards) for students at Croyden Ave School. We need 1 undergrad for this system!

11 Graduate Records Exam Preparation (GRE-Prep) Some possible tasks a GRE undergrad would complete are: –Supervise students in task completion –Revise course material –Create new material –Help with grading We need 1 undergrad for this system!

12 Self-Management (SM) Some possible tasks an SM undergrad would complete are: –Conduct class discussions –Check proof of task completion –Create and revise documents for course We need 1 undergrad for this system!

13 Here are some other systems that may not available this semester but will be in the future!....

14 Behavior Analysis Training System (BATS) Some possible tasks a BATS undergrad would complete are: –Grading weekly quizzes –Revising the Welcome Wagon CD –Revising job aides –Revising manuals –Update alumni information

15 Behavioral Research Supervisory System (BRSS) Some possible tasks a BRSS undergrad would complete are: –Checking weekly tasks of other BRSS undergrads –Grading/ Graphing –Attending weekly system meetings –Updating job aids

16 Pre-Practicum Some possible tasks a Pre-Prac undergrad would complete are: –Aiding with preparing and training undergraduates for their practicum at Croyden Ave School –Creating new materials –Revising old materials –Helping to run the seminar

17 We are looking for a total of 7 students to start in the Spring ’09 semester!!

18 There are 2 options PSY 499 Non- Thesis 3 credits 1 semester PSY 499 Thesis 6 credits 2 semesters Complete an honors thesis

19 What YOU Will Do & Receive PSY 499 Non-Thesis Complete weekly tasks Attend weekly R&D meeting Complete Computer Workshop homework Get a stronger letter of recommendation from Dr. Malott! PSY 499 Thesis Complete weekly tasks Attend weekly R&D meeting Complete Computer Workshop homework Get a stronger letter of recommendation from Dr. Malott! Write Honors Thesis Receive Departmental Honors

20 How much time is involved?? Remember, this is time for the ENTIRE week! –About 11 hours of time is required This includes a 1 hour weekly R&D meeting The rest is spent on weekly tasks and writing assignments (499 thesis only) –Some systems require that you attend another class (SM, GRE, BSAP, IP, AP, Pre- Prac)

21 The hours are worthwhile!! Participating in one of our systems will help build your resume! –Your name could be on professional presentations at MABA, BAAM and/or ABA! This could be you!

22 Does this sound like too much to handle? DON’T WORRY! We have the power of point contingencies Each week you will receive points for: –Attendance –Quality Task Completion –Writing Assignments (499 thesis only) You will also get constant feedback from the graduate students

23 You need more reasons to join? It’s FUN!! Where else can you: –Hang out with graduate students –Work towards Departmental Honors (499 Thesis) –Build your resume –Gain Dr. Malott’s fantastic recommendation

24 What we are looking for We are looking for hard- working, dedicated students who are interested in learning more about Behavior Analysis and who really enjoy working with others! We are Working Hard!

25 So How Do You Get Involved? Fill out an Application Hand it in to your TA by October 14 HINT: Be super nice to your TA –They will be writing your recommendation!
