Prime Time 1.1 Finding Proper Factors
Play the Factor Game once with a partner. Take turns making the first move. Look for moves that will give you more points than your opponent. Record your “First Move” scores in a T-Chart As you play, write down any strategies or patterns that you find.

Double Check How can you test to determine whether a number is a factor of another number? If you know one of the factors of a number, can you find another factor?

Question What is the term for a number that has many factors?

Composite! A composite number is a number that has more than two factors. What is the term for a number that has only two factors?

Prime! A prime number has only two factors!
Can you think of examples of prime numbers? Is the number 1 prime? Is the number 9 prime?

Check your work with factor pairs! Circle all prime numbers and box composite numbers.

Homework On a sheet of notebook paper, draw and solve Factor Pair T-Charts for the following numbers: 10, 12, 15, 28, 30, 39, 42, 48, 60, 72, 80 Remember: Include all factor pairs! Use your “Double Check” methods!
