3 Description of the Prime Minister A prime minister is described as the most senior minister of a cabinet in the executive, or highest, branch of government in a parliamentary system. Most prime ministers are part of a political party, but not all must be politicians.

4 Joe Clark Name: Charles Joseph "Joe" Clark. Birthday: June 5th, 1939. 16 th Prime Minister of Canada. The Prime Minister before him was Pierre Elliott Trudeau. The Prime Minister after him was Pierre Elliott Trudeau. Progressive Conservative Clark was the first Canadian politician to take a strong stand for decriminalization of marijuana in Canada.

5 Joe Clark Continued In office from June 4, 1979 – March 3, 1980 Joe was Canada’s youngest prime minister after defeating the Liberal Party in 1979 at the age of 39. He is from Alberta. He graduated from the University of Alberta, B.A. 1960, M.A. with Political Science 1973 Constituencies, which he was won in: 1972-1979 Rocky Mountain, Alberta 1979-1993 Yellowhead, Alberta 2000 King's Hants, Nova Scotia 2000-2004 Calgary Centre, Alberta

6 Joe Clark Continued #2 He was head of external affairs and the President of the Privy Council and Minister Responsible for Constitutional Affairs He is now retired from politics, which he did in 1993 and is now a professor at the University of California In 1981, Joe Clark was Leader of the Opposition against the liberals.

8 John Turner Name: John Turner Birthday: June 7, 1929 17th Prime Minister of Canada The Prime Minister before him was Pierre Trudeau The Prime Minister after him was Brian Mulroney He served from June 30, 1984 to September 17, 1984 only served 80 days. He is the oldest living former Prime Minister. According to Canadian protocol, as a former Prime Minister, he is styled "The Right Honourable" for life.

9 John Turner Continued John was born in England and was a lawyer in Montréal. Lester Pearson brought him into the liberal party. In 1968 he ran for the first time for the leadership of the liberals. He finished third. In 1972 he became the finance minister He attended UBC and received a B.A. in 1949 He also attended Oxford University, a Rhodes Scholar, and received B.A. in 1951 and a B.C.L. in 1952 and a M.A. in 1957. He also attended University of Paris from 1952-1953

11 Kim Campbell Name: Avril Phaedra Douglas Campbell Birthday: March 10th, 1947 19th Prime Minister of Canada The Prime Minister before her was Brian Mulroney The Prime Minister after her was Jean Chrétien Progressive Conservative Kim Campbell is the only prime minister not to live in the “prime-minister” house because of renovations, during her 5 month period, and never ended up moving in. Her honorable mentions are; Member of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada Queen's Counsel Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal Honorary Fellow of the London School of Economics Honorary Fellow of the Center for Public Leadership, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University Avril named herself Kim and was a junior reporter for CBC’s Junior Television Club Kim earned a BA from the University of British Columbia

12 Kim Campbell Continued Kim earned a LL.B from the University of British Columbia Kim was once the chair of the Vancouver School Board Kim once had an incident much like Trudeau’s “Fuddle Duddle” when she told the school board to F-off. Kim tried unsuccessfully to be the BC Social Credit Party candidate in Vancouver in 1983. Kim was the first woman as the Minister of National Defence and Veterans Affairs Her first prime-minister ship was during an election in the fall of 1993. In fact, she had served in four cabinet portfolios prior to running for the leader of the party. It is said that she had more experience than more than half of the men who were prime-minister before her including Joe Clark and Brian Mulroney, who had no cabinet experience at all. Many people thought she would last considering she had more experience than: Pierre Trudeau who had only 1 year prior experience.

13 Kim Campbell Continued #2 Kim Campbell was well aware that her duty as the Prime Minister was not up to task, and she was loosing votes and she put together a bunch of Jean Chretien ads. Kim was the first and youngest female prime minister to leave and enter office. Kim Campbell was very strongly against sexual assault.
