What’s New? Beginning in Fall, 2014, the IUPUI General Education Core will apply to all beginning students (including transfer students that fail to complete the 30-credit hour core at their prior institution) Students transferring internally from an IU campus (or from a Purdue campus to SCI or E&T) should be permitted to complete the core begun at their prior institution to facilitate progress toward degree goals

Coming Soon…..UNDI Course-to- Competency Articulation Office of Undergraduate Admissions is developing processes for reviewing 100- and 200-level UNDI transfer courses and articulating them with general education competencies Rules were articulated by faculty and admissions staff will be trained to make equivalency decisions. When a decision cannot be made, the most proximal department at IUPUI will be consulted

Academic Policies on General Education Codified in December 2013 (see gened.iupui.edu) Key decisions: – Courses apply to only one list and cannot move across lists (competency lists should be consistent at general education and baccalaureate requirement levels) – Course approvals apply retroactively – 3 course (9 credit) limit on courses that can apply to both program and general education requirements (except if student is pursuing double major, minor, or certificate) – General philosophy – do no harm/help student to attain degree goals
11
Degree Maps
12
HEA 1348-2014 – Degree maps must be offered to all students at public institutions beginning with first- time full-time students first entering in AY 2013-15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQRioM0Uct0&feature=youtu.be
13
For Students Who Are Not Sure…. 5 Meta-Majors have been developed and coded for first year: Human Services (Social Work, Education) STEM Arts, Humanities and Journalism Health and Life Sciences Business/Administration/Leadership
14
Status Report Degree maps (if validation process is smooth) SHOULD be viewable by students on June 2. If things are not smooth, there could be a delay. – Helpful to provide paper copy of Year 1 (semester 1 + 2) courses as backup – Critical that credits add to 30 in first year – State aid will be withdrawn if 30 credits are not completed successfully iGPS system: This fall, students should be able to import a degree map into their Planner. iGPS will provide feedback to student on plan as credits are earned. See Advising Systems Roadmap for an overview of this and other emerging systems.Advising Systems Roadmap
