Traffic Signals, Signs and Pavement Markings are used for traffic control to provide a smooth, orderly flow of traffic Remember: Obey all signs and signals unless directed by a police officer; police officer overrides signal *If a traffic signal isn’t working properly you should stop as if it was a four way stop sign

Traffic Signals Red Lights: Motorists must stop vehicle prior to reaching intersection, and may not proceed unless making a Right Turn* or the signal changes Yellow Lights: Warn motorists that the light is about to turn Red; “Rule” – If you can safely stop before reaching intersection you must stop, otherwise proceed through intersection Green Lights: You may go if the way is clear (Pedestrians)

Traffic Signals cont. Flashing Red Lights: means the same as a red light; you must stop completely and check traffic and pedestrians go when the way is clear. Flashing Yellow Lights: slow down, be prepared to stop and proceed with caution Green Arrow: you may go in the direction of the arrow if the way is clear, you must yield the pedestrians in the intersection –(Oncoming traffic will have RED light)

Pavement Markings Broken yellow center lines mean that passing on the left is allowed in either direction when the way ahead is clear. Broken yellow line w/ a solid yellow line passing is allowed from the side of the broken line, but not from the side of the solid line. Both sides of the center lane are marked by a solid yellow line and broken yellow line drivers traveling in either direction may use the lane for making left turns. may not travel further than 150 feet

Pavement Markings cont. Double solid yellow lines Separate traffic traveling in two different directions. Passing is not allowed in either direction. You may not cross the lines unless you are making a left turn. Broken white lines separate lanes of traffic going in the same direction. *change lanes with caution*
