2  What do you think you know about the Statue of Liberty?

3  The Statue of Liberty is a man-made landmark located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor.

4  This landmark was given as a gift in 1884 from France.

5  People come to see this landmark because it symbolizes freedom to people all over the world.

6  The Statue of Liberty is made from pounded copper.  The statue is over 151 feet tall.  The arm holding the torch was sent to Philadelphia for America’s 100 th birthday celebration in 1876.

7  statue A statue is a three dimensional work of art, usually in the shape of a person or other animal.

8  torch A torch is a stick with material on one end that can be burned to provide light.

9  tablet A tablet is a flat surface usually used for writing.

10  harbor A harbor is a protected body of water near the shore where ships can find shelter. The Statue of Liberty is located in the New York Harbor.

11  liberty Liberty is the right to believe and act independently of other people.
