The Lord’s Supper-2 A study in Authority

Evening Serving History at West Side Defense of the Practice Those who partake in the evening come for that purpose (Acts 20:7) They remember & proclaim the Lord’s death (1 Cor. 11:23-26) They commune with the Lord (10:16-17) They fulfill God’s command (11:24) In short, they do exactly what others have done.

Evening Serving, cont. Objections answered Idea of a 2nd serving a misnomer, it is being served to them for the 1 st time. Idea that if one partakes all must is not defensible, any more than any act of my worship being acceptable is dependent upon another. Deliberate absence from the morning worship is indefensible. (On this we agree, but note that some absences can be excused as valid).
9
One Cup Metonymy - the substitution of the name of an attribute or adjunct for that of the thing meant Cup = Fruit of the vine, not container Luke 22:17 (multiple containers)
10
Lesser Issues Sporadic Observance (annual, monthly, etc.) Observance on a day other that the first day of the week. Observances outside of the assembly. Color of the juice, use of salt in the bread, Vitamin “C” fortified, etc.
11
Conclusion There must always be an appeal to scripture to justify our worship and actions as Christians!
