The operational framework Students: a IV year class (25 students 17-18 years old) Timetable: 3 lessons of 45 minutes, each for 4 weeks AIM: to recognize the concept of the presentation of women as object Recommendation for group organization: Gender group work of 5 students (female group/masculine group?)

Participans Goals To achieve a basic knowledge of feminism To achieve a basic knowledge of stereotypes and gender roles ( advertisements) To develop understanding of why these ideas/issues are important and how they influence everyday life (media, advertisement, marketing) To develop a healthier body image and awereness of offensive images of women

Outline of Activities Women’s Rights Movement/ Women’s History STEP 1: introduction to women’s history, position of women throughout history Task1: searching informations Timeline/Highlights (individual students search) Task2: to be able to recognize concepts and history of ideas QUIZ (competion among 5 groups)

Stereotypes and Gender Roles STEP 2: Awareness of social and ethical influence of stereotypes Task 1: Definitions (teacher’s introduction) Task 2: Diagrams (brainstorming)-group work Fill the Male Box ! Fill the Female Box! Group reports Task3: Journal Assignment (individual): Have you experienced stereotyping in your every day life? Describe the experience!

Patriarchy/Feminism Designing A Model of Patriarchy (teacher’s introduction) Definitions Diagram Group discussion: Can you find patriarchy forms in our society? For exemple: stereotypes of the familiy, religion, etc. Express this forms throught exemples! Are these forms acceptiable for you? Group reports Feminism (teacher’s introduction) Definitions Oppression/Subjugation/Feminism Feminist Lens Task 3: Reading and Discussion: Simone de Beauvoir- text analyises

Women and media Task1 To introduce the concept of women as object through advertisements - collecting photos, pictures from daily newspapers, fashion magazines,TV commercials)-individual homework Task 2 searching for images which will be representative of the issue (group work with class exhibition) Task 3 group work (5) (“reading the image”: for analysing an image)

Task 4:Discussion Discuss examples of advertisement (each group will present there analizes) What is the difference among identity, image and reputation? How does media presents women? What are the main characteristics bond with women’s image? Can women be advertisement brand? Find the examples! Assignement: As a group try to made women’s brand without sexual context!
