1. Reading Support is for children who need extra help to make sure that they don’t fall behind. Getting help as quickly as possible will make a big difference to your child’s learning, especially if they have been worried or unhappy about reading or writing.

2. There are two types of support for children who need extra help. a)1-1 lessons with Mrs McKiernan following the Reading Recovery programme b)1-1 lessons with a teaching assistant following the Better Reading Partnership Programme

3. READING SUPPORT – Mrs McKiernan Children are given extra reading help in a daily 30 minute lesson for about 2 terms. What the lesson looks like Every day children Read 1 or 2 familiar books Read a book from the previous day to have their reading checked Learn to use letters to build words Learn how to compose sentences and how to spell the words they need Are introduced to a new book and explore new words * Each day the children take home a book to read and a sentence puzzle to complete.

4. BETTER READING PARTNERSHIP Is aimed at children who have started to read but need some support to become ‘Better Readers’ and read with confidence, understanding and enjoyment. Is delivered by a trained Teaching Assistant. Children work individually for between 15 and 30 minutes every day if possible In the lesson children will Read a familiar book to develop fluency, phrasing and pace Be introduced to a new book and explore meaning
