March 19, 2002 NERCOMP 20023 Choate Rosemary Hall Located in Wallingford, CT Grades 9-12 college prep curriculum 850 students from 42 states and 32 countries; day and residential 110 full-time teaching faculty, many with residential and coaching responsibilities

March 19, 2002 NERCOMP 20025 Goals of Project Original goal To stimulate faculty to develop and implement technology applications that significantly improve their teaching. Corollary goal To stimulate faculty to evaluate the way they teach, looking for opportunities to improve teaching and learning, with or without technology.

March 19, 2002 NERCOMP 20026 Philosophy To be prudent about the potential of educational technology To create a non-threatening environment for faculty learning To encourage faculty to be creative in their experimentation To minimize the “bar” for proficiency and/or results

March 19, 2002 NERCOMP 20027 Program Description Faculty mentors identified (3-8) Faculty choose year and season for project Faculty identify a project Faculty assigned to groups of one to three and matched with mentor Faculty spend minimum of 40 hours on project Both students and mentors are paid a stipend

March 19, 2002 NERCOMP 20028 Progress to date Year 1 (2000): 17 faculty in pilot (formal evaluation completed by Fresh Pond Education) Year 2 (2001): 43 faculty; 35 during summer, 8 during academic year Year 3 (2002): 8 during academic year, approx. 40 remain for summer
