NAME: The Snowshoe Hare Lepus americanus DESCRIPTION: in summer the hare is reddish brown above and white underneath, while in winter it becomes totally white, except for the tips of its ears, which remain black. GEOGRAPHIC DISTRIBUTION: Northern US and Canada FOOD: This hare is completely vegetarian, feeding on many plant species in summer, and bark and shoots in winter

NAME: The Canadian Lynx Lynx canadensis DESCRIPTION: Its fur is usually white tipped, giving it a frosted appearance, and is only indistinctly spotted; they have black ear tufts GEOGRAPHIC DISTRIBUTION: Canada, Alaska, Northern US in boreal forests FOOD: almost exclusively snowshoe hares, small rodents and sometimes small ungulates
