E ATING H ABITS / D IET The Burring Owl is a carnivore, meaning it only eats meat. The Burrowing owl eats small mammals, moles, mice, insects, grasshoppers, beetles, birds, amphibians, and reptiles.

P OPULATION The Burrowing Owl’s population is less than 10,000. This is only an estimate.

H ABITAT / R ANGE The Burrowing Owl’s range is from Mississippi to the Pacific Ocean and in South America, Florida, and the Carribean.

A DAPTATIONS The Burrowing Owl’s beak is used for killing prey and picking up prey. The Burrowing Owl’s claws are used for perching on tree branches. The Burrowing Owl’s eyes are for seeing prey and predators really good.

FUN FACTS The female is bigger than the male. The Burrowing Owl is active in the day and not at night. The Burrowing Owl makes a hissing sound when alarmed.
