Pisa cathedral belltower In the 1990’s the tower was in danger of collapse, the church took steps to save it. The story is told here click link click link The tower started to lean during Its construction. The foundation blocks shifted due to too moist Subsoil poured around blocks. Construction stopped for 30 years. The next master builder put heavier stone on north side believing this would cause tower to lean back north. This cause tower to increase its rate of lean to the south. By 1970 the tower leaned 13 feet off – center. The Tower would move drastically in the next 20 years. By 1990 the tower moved four feet, this was More movement than previous 200 years. The tower was shut down to the public.
