2. In today’s class we are going to look at how sleep disorders affect people.

3. One of my favorite sleep disorders is sleep paralysis
One of my favorite sleep disorders is sleep paralysis. In Korean it is known as Gawee Nulim.

4. The scientific explanation of sleep paralysis is simple:
(1) Your brain goes into REM sleep.
(2) Your body chemically shuts down your muscles so that you don’t move while you are dreaming.
(3) You wake up in the middle of an REM cycle and your muscle and brains are still disconnected.

5. Simple enough.
But what’s interesting is that most people who experience this feel an evil presence in the room when this happens.
Many people in fact claim to see a dark shape behind them when it happens.
Nobody ever reports a positive feeling or presence when this happens.

6. In cultures all around the world, people attribute this dark presence to be a demon, ghost or evil spirit that presses on a persons chest and steals their breath.
In Korea, for example, it’s a ghost.
In Turkey, it’s a Djinni.
In Eastern Canada it’s an old hag (evil witch).

7. In hundreds of cultures around the world people report spirits, demons, creatures, goblins, succubi and ghosts sitting on people and strangling them.

The lecturer discusses the common characteristics of happy people. Psychologists have examined the characteristics of happy people. The lecture covered the characteristics of happy people.

One important characteristic of happy people is family and friends. Studies have shown that happy people tend to have strong connections with family and friends and make time to spend with them.
