Nervous System By Etienne Nguyen & Alex Pouri

 The nervous system transmit neurons to different parts of the body are divided into two different parts: the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system.  The central nervous systems have two organs that controls the nerves which are the brain and the spinal cord.  The peripheral nervous system are divided into two sub-groups which are the somatic and autonomic nervous system.

 The central nervous system uses the brain and the spinal cord to send out nerve signal throughout the body. Each part of the brains carry out specific functions. Certain parts of the brain controls how you think, learn, use reasoning, your emotions, how you perceive the environment, memorization, and your sensory processing. Other parts controls breathing, your heart rate, blood pressure. Some parts can control your body temperature, when you get hungry or thirsty, and your daily cycle of activity which is known as the circadian rhythm. Also the brain controls the body’s movements such as the eye, legs, arms, etc. and your balance and posture.

 The peripheral nervous system has two parts which are somatic and autonomic nervous system.  Somatic nervous system uses the peripheral nerve fibers to gather sensory information and voluntary movements to the central nervous system.

 Paralysis is a common loss of muscle function in parts of your body. It happens when the nerve signals passing between your brain and the body does not function properly. Paralysis can exists in other types of diseases.  Common causes of paralysis involves strokes, spinal cord injury, a broken neck.  Symptoms include change in mood, personality, or behavior, clumsiness, confusion or loss of consciousness for a brief moment, having trouble with memory, speech, thought, understanding, and words, others may be drooling or numbness.  Treatment may vary depending on the severity of the damage on the body. If spinal cord is damaged, then fixing the damaged tissue is the best option.  There are no known cures only waiting for a recovery to happen is possible.

1. Sodium ions and potassium are necessary to ensure proper functioning of the nervous system and Vitamin B is considered to be beneficial for it 2. A human brain contains about 100 billion neurons and if they were lined up they form a 600 mile long line. 3. In humans, the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, while the left side of the brain controls the right side. 4. A New born baby loses about half of their nerve cells before they are born. 5. In a child developing inside the womb, neurons grow at the rate of 250,000 neurons per minute. 6. The human spinal cord consists of around 13,500,000 neurons. 7. At a given point of time, only four percent of the cells in the brain are active, the rest are kept in reserve. 8. Neurons, which are the largest cells in the human body, do not undergo the process of mitosis. 9. There are 43 different pairs nerves which connect the central nervous system to every part of our body. Twelve of these nerve pairs are connected to the brain, while the remaining 31 are connected to the spinal cord. 10. The Nervous System can transmit impulses as fast as 100 meters per second.
