Overview Lync will be the first UC service to be upgraded to 2013 Exchange 2013 will be a separate deployment project Testing Lync 2013 Server to evaluate infrastructure needs Timeline is still being set as we complete a project plan CB on 5/17/13 to discuss project process Lync 2013 Upgrade Process

New Features in 2013 HD video using open standards including H.264 Tabbed IMs Multiparty “Gallery” video support in meetings Persistent Chat (PChat) Skype Federation… Lync 2013 Upgrade Process

Skype Federation On February 19th Tony Bates, President of Microsoft’s Skype Division, announced that Lync-Skype Connectivity will be available to all Lync users in June, 2013. Only presence, IM, and voice will be available initially We’ll support federation at some point AFTER the campus Lync 2013 upgrade Still a lot of unknowns because product hasn’t been released and documentation is limited Lync 2013 Upgrade Process

Mobile Client Changes Audio and video support in Lync-to-Lync connections Now supports SIP and cellular iPad version adds desktop and application sharing (view only) to accompany PowerPoint viewing Lync 2013 Upgrade Process

Lync Web App Changes No longer requires the Silverlight browser plug-in In order to support computer-based audio/video and sharing, it requires the installation of an Active X plug-in Lync Attendee is no longer needed because Lync Web App replaces all of Attendee’s features Lync 2013 Upgrade Process

Planning for the upgrade Minimum client versions Set each academic term (fall, spring, summer) Windows – users will see update warning message Mac – users will be unable to log in IP phones – updates are managed by Lync Server; no changes needed Endpoint Management makes it easy! Join the UC Working Group At least one representative from each college Set priorities for future changes to the service Identify needs and deficiencies based on your users’ feedback Be well-informed about the future of the project and share this information with your campus unit Anticipate a time commitment of 1 hour per month Lync 2013 Upgrade Process
