The Kite Runner: Redemption SOLO activity

What’s this? A SOLO activity is a series of questions The questions get progressively harder The questions are linked, so that the easier questions help us in answering the harder questions After this lesson, please tell me how helpful the activity was.

Rahim Khan tells Amir in a letter ‘…____, real ____ was born out of your _______ _______.’ 265 Rahim Khan then lists the good things Baba has done to redeem himself. What has Baba done? What other good deeds has Baba done in the novel? For most of the novel, Amir feels guilty. Why? Khaled Hosseini makes extensive use of foreshadowing in the novel. List 2 instances BEFORE the rape, where Hosseini indicates something bad will happen to Hassan. Khaled Hosseini also makes extensive use of flashback in the novel. List 2 instances AFTER the rape, when Amir thinks back to the rape. Both Hassan and Sohrab are compared to what animal?

The Muslim slaughtering of a lamb (in chapter 7) presents a contrasting view of redemption. How does this indicate redemption can be found? How is guilt associated with ideas of redemption? How does foreshadowing help to develop ideas about redemption? How does flashback help to develop ideas about redemption? When Amir is saving Sohrab, he takes a beating. During this time, he states (paradoxically) that ‘I felt healed at last.’ Why does he feel healed at this point in the novel?

This novel presents two differing ideas about redemption: –Redemption through sacrifice –Redemption through good deeds Amir tries both approaches to redemption –How does Amir prove one of these approaches to be effective? –How does he prove the other to be ineffective? This novel can be said to be a criticism of the religious beliefs of Taliban officials. How?
