A Friendly Athletic Competition Teams of any # of Runners From Each City Top 5 Athletic Performances Count for Team Score Unincorporated County may have Team Using Okaloosa County 5K Races Already in Existence Team Captain Submits Scores to OCCC Manager Normalized Results Account for Age, Gender Teams Will Compete for a Traveling Trophy Winning Team Announced at League of Cities Dinner

2 OKALOOSA COUNTY CIVIC CHALLENGE - Team Rules - One OCCC Team per City - Each Team Appoints a Team Captain - Team Captain Registers Team - Full Teams have 5 or More Runners - Best 5 Scores on Each Team, Each Race Count - All Runners Scores Normalized with Formula/Calculator - Team Runners Compete on 1 Team Only - Team Captain Arranges Sponsorship, Uniforms, etc.

3 OKALOOSA COUNTY CIVIC CHALLENGE – Paperwork Each Team Submits an Residency Affidavit for Runners The Signed Affidavit is Validated by Team Captain Each Runner Submits a Signed Liability Release too Copies of Affidavits and Releases Collected by Manager The Affidavit Certifies Residency in City of Team The Release Indemnifies all Cities, Civic Challenge Organizers, and Volunteers Scores do not count until Affidavits/Releases are Received Affidavit and Release Forms will be Provided by Manager

4 OKALOOSA COUNTY CIVIC CHALLENGE – Scoring Each Team Member’s Raw Score is Their Official 5K Time 5K Results Published Online by Race are Official Team Member’s Age, Gender, and 5K Time are Used An Online Calculator Tool Converts to a Percentage The % is Based on a World Record for Each Age and Gender All %s are Based on World Records from the Same Year The %s are Converted to Score as a Decimal Number < 1 The Top 5 Scores per Team per Race, Count for Team Race Score Team Final Scores Include Team’s Top 5 Race Scores for Year

6 OKALOOSA COUNTY CIVIC CHALLENGE – Scoring (continued) The Best 5 scores for Each Team will Count Each Annual Team Competition Begins, Ends with the October League of Cities Dinner If Team has < 5 Runners, Team Race Score gets 0 points for Each Position < the 5 Runner Minimum Runner gets Maximum of 1 Point and a Minimum of 0 Points for Each of the 5 Scoring Positions on Team Each Runner’s Score is their Percentage, Converted to Decimal Format, to 2 Decimals Next 4 Slides are an Example of How 5K Race Times are Converted to a Normalized Team Score

11 OKALOOSA COUNTY CIVIC CHALLENGE – Scoring (continued) - Each team will have a Team Captain - Each team competes in 5 to 10 5K Races in Okaloosa County - Teams Should Wear Team Uniform Item at Race - Team Captains Submit Forms within 3 Days of Race Completion - Results will be Published Online and Announced at October League of Cities Dinner - Winning Team is Awarded the Civic Challenge Trophy - Traveling Trophy will have a Placard with Team Name, Victory Year - Winning Team Displays Trophy in Their City Hall Until the Next Year

12 OKALOOSA COUNTY CIVIC CHALLENGE – Team Captain Responsibilities - Each team will have a Team Captain Responsible to: - Recruit Team Members to Run for their Team - Get Affidavits and Releases Signed, Scanned, & Submitted - Help Runners Register for the Right 5K Races - Help Train their Team - Ensure Team Members Wear Team Uniform Item at Race - Team Captains Submit Results within 3 Days of Race Completion - Attend League of Cities Dinner in October

13 OKALOOSA COUNTY CIVIC CHALLENGE – Adding Other Sports to Civic Challenge - VOLUNTEER MANAGER MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY - NEW SPORT WILL HAVE EQUAL WEIGHT WITH EXISTING SPORTS - PERIOD OF COMPETITION WILL BE SAME – OCT thru OCT - MUST ADHERE TO CIVIC CHALLENGE VISION AND MISSION - SHOULD HAVE TEAM UNIFORMS - TEAMS WILL REPRESENT OKALOOSA CITIES OR UNINC. COUNTY - SHOULD COORDINATE SCHEDULE WITH OTHER SPORTS - MANAGER SHOULD FIND THEIR OWN REPLACEMENT - MANAGER SHOULD KEEP RECORDS OF ALL COMPETITIONS

14 OKALOOSA COUNTY CIVIC CHALLENGE – CIVIC CHALLENGE TRAVELING TROPHY - TROPHY AWARDED AT OCTOBER LEAGUE OF CITIES DINNER - TEAM CAPTAINS SHOULD ATTEND DINNER - TRAVELING TROPHY DONATED BY WASTE MANAGEMENT, INC. - WINNING TEAM WILL HAVE TEAM/CITY NAME, YEAR ON TROPHY - TROPHY WILL BE DISPLAYED IN CITY HALL OF WINNING TEAM - TROPHY WILL BE NAMED CIVIC CHALLENGE TRAVELING TROPHY - TROPHY MUST BE CARRIED TO EACH OCTOBER LEAGUE DINNER - TROPHY WILL ALSO DISPLAY THE HIGHEST SCORING TEAM EVER - HOST LEAGUE OF CITIES MAYOR WILL PRESENT TROPHY
