Birds M15 trained and tamed its own force of falcons with an aim of felling incoming pigeons. Pigeons played a vital part in World War One as they proved to be an extremely reliable way of sending messages. Such was the importance of pigeons that over 100,000 were used in the war with an astonishing success rate of 95% getting through to their destination with their message. Some of the pigeons could travel up to 96 kilometers in a single day.

Dogs Dogs were used as messengers and proved to be as reliable as soldiers in the dangerous job of running messages. A trained dog was faster than a human runner, presented less of a target to a sniper and could travel over any terrain. Above all, dogs proved to be extremely reliable if they were well trained. A dog training school was established in Scotland and a recruit from this school traveled over 4000 meters on the Western Front with an important message to a brigade's headquarters. The dog traveled this distance (war records classed it as "very difficult" terrain) in less than sixty minutes.

Dogs Dogs were used as anti tank weapons by the Soviet army during World War II. The idea was that dogs would be starved then trained to run under tanks in search of food. This would trip a small level on their back which would detonate a bomb strapped to them. In practice it didn’t work so well. First of all, the dogs were trained on Soviet tanks, so once let loose on the battlefield they would run under the wrong tanks. Sometimes the dogs would be scared by the tank engine’s ramble and refuse to proceed. The Nazis also started putting flamethrowers on top of the tanks to be used against the dogs. Despite all these setbacks, the Soviet dogs managed to disable 300 German tanks.

Horses Horses were heavily used in World War One. Horses were involved in the war's first military conflict involving Great Britain - a cavalry attack near Mons in August 1914. Horses were to be used as a form of transport during the war. Horses, along with mules, were reliable forms of transport. Others
