PAT/PPS Evaluation Workgroup 2010-2011

Appendix I Portland Public Schools and the Portland Association of Teachers agree to form a committee to update the Teacher Evaluation Process Handbook. The committee will be comprised of five representatives appointed by each party. The goal of the committee will be to make recommendations to the superintendent by the end of the 2010-2011 school year. The recommended changes to the Handbook shall be mutually agreed upon by the District and the Association.

Overview of the Work Began meeting in late September Reviewed purpose of evaluation and beliefs Reviewed other evaluation tools locally, statewide and nationally Honed in on Roosevelt’s model Honed in on Rubric using Charlotte Danielson’s work

Purpose of Evaluation The workgroup wants to change the dynamics of the evaluation process The purpose of evaluation is to improve instruction and/or performance Gathering evidence to improve professional practice Improve collegiality between administrator and employee Supportive and helpful Not an “I gotcha” model

2011-2012 Evaluation Changes The only changes in the 2011-2012 School Year will be the new rubric The Workgroup will continue to meet to work on the evaluation process during the 2011- 2012 school year The same Evaluation process will be used for the 2011-2012 school year to include pre and post observation meetings, goal setting and formal observations
