3 rd year of operation Helps special needs adults with phyisical activity programs throughout Antigonish Swimming and Gym Future Uncertain 10 members, 15-30 participants
4
Yes, we feel based on multiple criteria that ASAP should build the program as well as expand to other universities in Halifax, and Wolfville. Acadia’s SMILE program (300 volunteers) DAL and SMU are involved with Project Maximize focused on teaching children to read. Research shows that the demand for student involvement is out there (over 90 societies on the Stfx campus) ASAP is different in the sense that the program is tailored towards adults with special needs
5
Funding will be required for facilities (Gym, Pool) Transportation (to and from group home) Apparel Letter w/ Mission Statement Progress Reports– Plan to attract donations Current Sponsors
6
Research Study 1 ->PE Students attitudes towards participation of special needs youth in regular classes. Research Study 2 ->Teachers attitudes towards integration/inclusion
8
Meeting with St.fx’s student union society coordinator Kerrin Duggan Conclusions and recommendations Provide ASAP with an opportunities to benefit their organization as well as getting more people involved. A society would be a good step toward reaching future goals
9
Target first and second year students (with time left at X) Low awareness on campus Search too broad, surveyed existing members Relatives w/ past experience
10
ASAP should expand and work with existing organizations at other campuses in Nova Scotia Partnerships with sponsors should be worked out that include donated facilities and transportation costs. Student attitudes are positive but an awareness campaign would be beneficial. Definitely a market for this. Should be incorporated as a society. Future candidates should have passing familiarity with the program, and also experience working with special needs adults or youth.
