What is an electric light bulb? electric light bulbs were invented to replace Wax candles and lamps so people can see more in the dark and during work. Light bulbs maybe simple on appearance but the mechanism by which they function is very extraordinary. There are three main parts in a light bulb, a metal part that conducts electricity. A thin wire called a filament and a glass bulb that surrounds and protects the filament. The bulb protects the filament by keeping air away form it. These two pictures describe the filament and the whole bulb.
3
Problem Can you imagine having to live and work in the dark, well it would have been terrible, people used a variety of different ways to light their way at night, such as wax candles and lamps.

Life Story of Thomas Edison When Edison was small he was a very curious child and he was asking advanced question that his mother who used to be a teacher could not answer him. When Edison was16 he almost got def due to an ear problem but after the surgery Edison said I didn't mind if I got def because it will help me to concentrate. When 22 He only had $1 in his pocket and one night some equipment fell down and Edison fixed it. The owners of the machine gave Edison a job. He improved the machine so much that the company gave hi, 40,000 for his invention. He started American telegraph works in New York. He built a laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey and here is where he hired loads of employees and made much of his inventions. His team and him found a light bulb that glows for a long time. They tried 1,500 materials and nothing worked well. Finally he tried a new material in the filament that burned nearly 200 hours. In addition to the light bulb Edison made a phonograph, a camera to take motion pitures. Now in the world there is a very famous company called general electrics made by Thomas Edison.
5
Who invented electric light bulbs and why? The first ever light was made in 1800 by Humphrey Davy, an English scientist made a attempt to make a electric light bulb but failed to succeed. Much later, in 1860, the English physicist Sir Joseph Wilson Swan he invented a little longer lasting light than the one created by: Humphrey Davy. Then in 1879 Thomas Alva Edison improved the bulb by experimenting with thousands of different filaments to find just the right materials to glow well and be long-lasting. Edison also discovered that people could not buy the light every day because the bulb glowed but did not burn more than 40 hours. So he made a bulb that could glow over 1500 hours later on. These were only the main people that made light bulbs that actually helped people. They invented the light bulb because he wanted people to see in the dark cheap and efficiently

7
How does it work? When the bulb is connected to power supply, the electrons travel along the circuit and continuously bump into the filaments atoms, causing them to vibrate. The atoms heat up to 2200 degrees, which helps the electric light bulb to glow.
8
How the problem is solved The problem is solved in 1879 when Thomas Alva Edison created the long lasting light bulb for people to see in the dark cheaply but effectively
9
What humans did about this problem before light bulb were invented? They tried to make a lot of candles using wax but then it was too dangerous for the children in their house. The problem was fixed by having lamps with fire inside them and they were so tired carrying the lamp all the way around the house at night so then it was Humphrey Davy who made life much easier in 1800.
10
How this invention improved human life The electric light bulb improved human life because if it had not been for Humphrey davy to invent the light bulb, we would have been stumbling in the dark. The important reason it has changed human life is because we wouldn’t be able to increase our knowledge because we would not be able to read in the night but the invention has made us increase our knowledge to help us in our bright future.

Detail changes to the light bulb through time The light bulb has not changed on it’s job but lot’s of things changed like: size, temperature, price, types of products ect. The light bulb Edison made was very big but now the bulb are small. The heat of the light bulb has decreased. The prices have gone high and the prices depends on the types of product because there can be a fancy light bulb and a plain bulb.
12
What new problems are there because of light bulbs There are 2 new major problems because people are saying they break easily and they can’t buy it over again + if it brakes it is very dangerous for the children. The 2 problem is argued by people to make the light bulbs long lasting even thought they can glow for few moths.

Time line of the light bulb 1800 by Humphrey Davy, an English scientist 1860, the English physicist Sir Joseph Wilson 1879 Thomas Alva Edison After that period time so many people tried to improve it more and more some succeed and some failed but a lot of people say the modern day light bulb is so perfect
