1. High School Dropouts

2.  It is no surprise that more students drop out of high school in big cities than elsewhere. Now, however, a nationwide study shows the magnitude of the gap: the average high school graduation rate in the nation’s 50 largest cities was 53 percent, compared with 71 percent in the suburbs. In Cleveland, for instance, where the gap was largest, only 38 percent of high school freshmen graduated within four years, compared with 80 percent in the Cleveland suburbs, the report said. In Baltimore, which has the nation’s second-largest gap, 41 percent of students graduate from city schools, compared with 81 percent in the suburbs.

3.  A report states that only 52 percent of public High school students in the 50 largest cities graduated after four years while the remaining 48 percent dropped out. In the suburban areas 82.9 percent of the students graduated while the remaining dropped out. In Detroit many calculations the poorest U.S. cities graduate less than 25 percent of it's public High school students.

4.  In my opinion I feel that you should not compare urban and suburban schools. they are two very different schools. The only thing they have in common is the fact that they are both schools. The reason I think that is because urban schools are very poor and they do not have the same advantages, nor encouragement as the suburban schools do. The suburban schools has money to supply them with anything that they need in school. while some urban kids struggle to get the things they need to keep them caught up in school. They do not have the support they need to push them forward in school, and tell them that they can do it. All I am trying to say is that those two should not be compared. For one the financial situations are way different. So therefore the educational systems are going to be very different.

5.  The educational systems are way different. The reason I say that is because they are on a higher level of learning than urban school. Urban school students could learn the work just as fast as suburban school students. The school district just chooses to keep them held behind on work. They do this because majority of the students are still behind and they want everyone to be on the same level. Which means that keeps everyone back from moving ahead, while the suburban students are speeding through

6.  I feel that urban schools are at the bottom of the chain. The differences between the two are obvious. In urban schools students have no motivation to come to school. The students in urban schools are more worried about appearance than they are school. More and more teens in urban schools are becoming pregnant. The effect of that is students dropping out of school. To be exact 4,965 students dropped out because of pregnancy. 664 was because of death. In suburban schools the students are motivated by there parents as well as there teachers and staff. Those students could most likely pay for what is needed to help them graduate. They also have a better chance at going to college and becoming something big in life. Suburban schools have after schools activities to keep them occupied and busy while urban schools has sports teams such as basketball and so on. Well I should say some not all. Those are the differences between the two in my personal opinion.

7.  Fewer blacks are dropping out of school. The annual High school dropout rates for blacks enrolled in grades 10 through 12 declined from 11 percent to 5 percent. A study shows that there are more black dropouts than there are white. The reason for that is because there are about 1 percent of white people living in the black community. The few that live here either dropout or graduate, and most of that 1 percent dropout. While the ones living in the suburban communities graduate.

8. Personally I feel that people dropout of school because they feel that they can’t accomplish the same things other students accomplish so they just give up instead of putting there best into it.

9.  I feel that suburban schools have a better chance at graduating high school. The reason why is because urban school kids doesn’t have the motivation that suburban schools have. By motivation I mean they have a large support team as far as parents and teachers and etc. Most urban students barely have parents on there side.

10.  I don’t feel that students dropout of school because of pressure. I feel that people dropout of school because they are scared to try. They feel as though they are not as smart as the other students so they just don’t try at all. Its not so much as someone pressuring them.

11.  In my opinion the most recent cause of dropouts is pregnancy. The reason why I say this is because I noticed that there are a lot of teen mothers that finds it hard to be a full time mother and still manage to finish school. I also have a lot of friends that dropped out because of pregnancy.
