Social Traders www.socialtraders.com.au Social Traders is a specialist social enterprise development organisation, established on 2008 We are small, independent and NFP We support the growth of social enterprise in Australia, with a focus on: –increasing knowledge of social enterprise – building the trading capability and investment readiness of start-up and early stage enterprises –growing the market for social enterprise products and services Activities: tours and workshops, development and support programs, policy, investment fund, tailored tools and resources Our work is funded by a combination of government funding, philanthropy, sponsorship, contracts and consulting work Over the last 4 years we have provided one: one support to over 60 social enterprises and developed tools, resources and run events and workshops for hundreds more © Social Traders Ltd 2013 2

Social Enterprise © Social Traders Ltd 2013 3 Social enterprises are organisations that: Are led by an economic, social, cultural, or environmental mission consistent with a public or community benefit; Trade to fulfil their mission; Derive a substantial portion of their income from trade; and Reinvest the majority of their profit/surplus in the fulfilment of their mission Research suggests that there are around 20,000 organisations that fit with this definition in Australia ( FASES, 2010 )
