The cinema Moravia

The cinema was built in 1919. It was built in the late Art Nouveau style. The cinema is situated in Smrtelná Street. The cinema closed in March 2006. The cinema was designed by an architect Josef Herzán. Nowadays the local authorities are trying to sell the cinema building.

The cinema Moravia was the first cinema in Třebíč with a big, permanent auditorium. It was very modern for its time. It was a multipurpose building. In addition to film projections there were also theatre performances, concerts and other cultural events. In 1938 Klement Gottwald gave an antifascist speech there.

The names of the cinema through its history At its foundation the cinema was named MORAVIA. After 1948 it was called the cinema SVĚT (WORLD). After changes to its interior in 1958 it was renamed the cinema SPUTNIK. In 1992 it returned to the name cinema MORAVIA which was used until its closing in 2006.
