GrowthAchievement What is the difference between growth and achievement? Discuss with your neighbors. Please include examples. 3
4
Existing Measures of Growth Directions: Again in your small group, develop a list of measures that HCPS already has in place that measure students’ growth. Consider your content area as well as other areas. 4
5
Additional Measures of Student Growth Sufficient measures are not in place Must use multiple measures Specialists have worked to identify additional measures (where needed) Groups of teachers have been involved in the process Will talk first about “traditional” teachers Will discuss special education after this 5
6
Secondary Measures Considered Standardized Tests ◦ NWEA ◦ SOLs (SGP) ◦ CTE Certification Pre and Post-Test Assessments Performance-Based Tasks Portfolios 6

Science Measure 1: Content Knowledge Content Knowledge Content Knowledge One time per semester, teachers will administer a pre/post unit assessment to assess understanding of science facts, ability to connect science ideas and concepts, ability to interpret graphs and models, ability to contrast, classify, and organize information, and ability to perform simple calculations as related to scientific content. Students will be scored using a holistic 4 point rubric. Students who score a 4 on both the pre and post-test will be considered to show growth. AP, IB, and specialty center elective course questions will be teacher developed. All other questions will be centrally developed. 7
8
Science Measure 1: Content Knowledge Content Knowledge Content Knowledge All students will show growth between the pre and post assessment on each comparison. Unique exceptions will be quantified or additional information collected to represent student growth. 8
9
Science Measure 2: Lab Skills (Pilot) Lab Skills Lab Skills Student application of the scientific processes will be scored with a standard rubric assessing lab skills. Teachers will select at least 2 skills to monitor for growth across all students. Baseline data will be collected first semester and growth will be measured second semester by comparing fall and spring rubric scores on the selected skills. 9
