11. Additional Graduation Requirements - pg 4 You must demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing and mathematics on the PSSA tests. Importance of 8 th grade PSSAs – it determines your courses in high school! You must be proficient on 4 Keystone Exams: Algebra Biology English Lit and Comp US History and Civics

12. Recommendations Teachers base their recommendations on your performance in class. Level 3 (co-taught), 5, 6H, or 6P Level changes from 8 th to 9 th are also based on classroom performance. Requests for level changes must be through communication between parent and teacher after verification sheets are sent home. If you want to move up a level, talk with your teacher to hear what they need to see you doing in the classroom.

Class rank continued … Example: In a class of 1000, the student’s total points from five major subjects are computed and an average is calculated. “A” in a 4 level or LS course = 4 points “A” in a 5 level course = 5 points “A” in a 6 level course = 6 points Your top 5 majors will count to your GPA and rank Based on their averages, students are ranked from 1 to 1000. Major subject course levels where you can maintain A’s & B’s provide the greatest opportunity for obtaining a high class rank. Higher level classes will give you more points towards your GPA – challenge yourself to take higher level classes A “B” in a 6.0 class earns you 5 quality points – the same as an “A” in a 5.0 class
