2 REMOTE SENSING SYSTEM FOR URBAN HEAT ISLAND STUDY Ivanov A., Kadygrov E., Miller E. Introduction The studies of urban heat island based mainly on in situ measurements of temperature and humidity on the surface layer. New remote sensing system based on consuming of stationary and mobile microwave temperature profilers gave possibility to provide more detail study of urban heat island parameters including of the three dimension distribution of temperature data. The main parts of the system are stationary microwave temperature profiler MTP-5HE and mobile microwave temperature profiler MMTP-5. For urban heat island study the stationary profiler can be installed in the center of the city and mobile profiler moving from the center to suburb with the several stops for temperature profile measurements and had been repeated for several directions during one-two weeks.

Studies of ground temperature heterogeneity show that the heat island inside of the city can have heterogeneous structure so-called "multicupolas". But this assumes, in turn, the three-dimensional heterogeneity of temperature profile. Thus, in the city can be observed different conditions for forming and destroying the inversions and, therefore, can be formed different prerequisites for pollution concentration increase in the Atmospheric Boundary Layer (ABL).

Main objectives for MMTP-5 1)Possibility of measurements in different locations with the use of unique, high cost device 2)Possibility of making measurements in the immediate vicinity of sores of air pollution 3)Possibility of scientific study of features in Urban climate and correspondent distribution of air pollutions (WMO GURME project) 4)Possibility of emergency service with “on site” air pollution diagnostic and forecast in case of industrial and public catastrophe 5)Commercial usage of the system as a rent or lease for environment protection services in industry and for scientific groups

19 REMOTE SENSING SYSTEM FOR URBAN HEAT ISLAND STUDY Ivanov A., Kadygrov E., Miller E. Summary New microwave remote sensing system for urban heat island study gave new useful possibility for urban atmospheric boundary layer thermal regime investigations. It can measure heterogeneous structure of urban heat island (“multicupolas”) and to measure quantities parameters of heat island of Megacity for different seasons and miscellaneous synoptical conditions. Proposed new technology can be very useful for urban research meteorology and environment.
